Happy Labor Day, Boca 🇺🇸

Today belongs to the people who do the work.

The ones who build it, serve it, teach it, drive it, nurse it, wire it, and unlock the door at six in the morning so the rest of us can walk in at nine. In all fifty states, and right here on Federal Highway. Thank you, genuinely. Put your feet up if you get the chance today, and if you do not, we see you.

Issue No. 7 | Monday, September 7, 2026

Labor Day, and Boca is running on a skeleton crew. 🌧️ City offices are dark, the beaches are open, and somebody on your street is going to roll the bin out anyway.

Let's get into it.

The Rundown

The 42,000 square foot skate park just cleared its second to last hurdle

The Planning and Zoning Board approved it 7-0 on Thursday. It goes at North Park in Boca Teeca, on the old Ocean Breeze golf course, and the design uses the course's own slopes for a multilevel street run that spills into bowls, plus pump tracks and a snake run bikes can ride. 🛹

For scale: the Tim Huxhold park on Crawford, the one this replaces, opened in 1998 and runs about 10,000 square feet. This is more than four times that, and Boca has been making do with the small one for 28 years. Also settled Thursday: 8 foot fencing, a native tree buffer along the railway, and 327 parking spaces against a requirement of 152. City Council has the last word before anyone pours concrete.

Your trash day moved. So did everybody's.

No sanitation pickup today. Monday's route runs Tuesday, and Tuesday's route slides to Wednesday the 9th. City Hall, the Community Center, the Sugar Sand Field House and both libraries are closed. Beaches, parks and playgrounds are open, the Swim Center and Meadows Park pools are on holiday hours, and the golf courses run 7 to sunset. Everything is back to normal tomorrow.

The library is starting a film festival

The Boca Raton Public Library announced the Dewey Film Festival this morning, its first ever, set for Saturday, February 6, 2027. Open to Florida filmmakers 18 and older with short films, and submissions open September 15. A public library launching a film festival either quietly disappears or turns into the thing everyone claims they were at in year one. Worth watching which one this is.

What's On

Saturday, September 12, 7:30pm

The home opener, and it is Navy. This is the one that fills the place. Boca spends September pretending football season has not started because the Owls were in Gainesville last week, and then 40,000 people show up on Glades Road at once. Leave early. Tickets are moving. 🏈

Saturday, September 19, 8 to 11am

The International Coastal Cleanup lands at Spanish River Park, 3001 N State Road A1A. Free, free t shirt while they last, and community service hours, which is the real reason half the high schoolers in this town will be on that beach at eight in the morning on a Saturday. Space is limited and you have to call to hold a spot: 561-544-8612.

The Plate

Whit's flips the flavor today, and you heard it here first

Almond Joy finished its run yesterday. 🍦 Starting this afternoon the weekly flavor at Whit's is Buckeye: peanut butter custard with Reese's cups folded all the way through. All three locations, East Boca included.

Worth knowing the difference while you are standing at the window. Custard is not ice cream. More egg yolk, less air churned in, so it comes out denser, colder and smoother, and it holds its shape instead of sliding down your wrist in the parking lot. 🍦 Whit's spins theirs fresh every day, which is why the daily flavor changes and the case is never the same twice.

The East Boca shop is at 3551 N Federal Highway, five minutes from FAU, open noon to 9:30 tonight. September's remaining lineup, so you can plan accordingly: Berry Explosion, S'mores, Coffee Fudge Ripple. 🍦

The nail appointment nobody thinks to book

Everybody wants Friday at five. Which is exactly why Monday is the move. 💅

Opus Nails & Spa sits at 4133 N Federal Highway with 478 reviews and a 4.6, and the reviews all circle the same handful of things: gel, dip, chrome, and 145 separate people going out of their way to say the staff is friendly. New management took over and regulars noticed. Walk ins are welcome, they will take a whole group if you are bringing people, and there are chairs that actually massage.

Open 8:30 to 7 today. Go on a Monday and you sit down when you arrive.

The Find

The bracelet with no clasp, because you are never taking it off

Permanent jewelry has quietly taken over Boca and Darling American Designs is where it happens. There is no clasp and that is the entire point. They measure a gold chain to your wrist, weld the last link shut in about a second, and you walk out wearing it. Shower in it. Swim in it. Sleep in it. It stays.

Bracelets, anklets, necklaces, hand chains, stacked as high as you want them. Their Boca studio at 5499 N Federal Highway, Suite P is new and sitting on a perfect five stars across 44 reviews. Walk in Saturdays from noon to 3, or book an appointment any other day and get the room to yourself, which is what people do for birthdays and bachelorettes.

Mothers bring daughters. Best friends come in pairs and leave matching. It is the rare thing in this town that is both a gift and a whole afternoon.

Sales

The Markdown

Every store in town put something on sale this weekend and half of Boca is going to sleep through it. 🛍️ Here is what is actually worth the drive today, in the order it disappears.

Ends tonight: double points at Town Center

Simon+ members earn twice the points on everything they buy, September 4 through today. It is free to join, it takes about a minute, and it is the only thing on this list with a hard stop. If you are buying anything at Town Center this month, buy it today.

Aerie and Offline, 6000 Glades Road

The Labor Day activewear sale is the real one. Twenty five percent off select pieces, 50 off certain shorts, 60 off tanks, and 70 to 80 percent off select leggings and sports bras. Offline leggings at that number are the entire reason there is a fitting room line.

Lululemon, Boca Town Center

Lululemon does not run a Labor Day sale. It never has. Everything marked down lives in We Made Too Much instead, and that section is deep right now: accessories from $9, shorts and skirts from $14, free shipping on all of it. Skip the front page and go straight to that tab.

adidas, up to 60 percent off through September 30

The one with no rush. It runs all month at Town Center, so if today is for the couch, it will still be there Friday.

Ring Concierge, 20 percent off fine jewelry through September 10

Friends and Family, in store only, and fine jewelry almost never goes on sale. 💍

Good to Know

Hurricane screens on a Boca patio, installed by All Hurricane Services. Photo: Google Business Profile

This is the month everybody remembers the shutters

Peak season runs through the middle of October, which means right now is when half of Boca opens a closet, looks at the panels they have not touched since 2023 and thinks about it seriously for the first time all year. 🌀

All Hurricane Services works out of 1000 Holland Drive and carries a clean five stars on every review it has. Accordions, roll downs, panels, impact windows, and the screens that let you keep using the patio instead of boarding it up. Two words keep showing up in the reviews: punctual and meticulous, which in the home services business is most of the game.

Open 8:30 to 4:30 on weekdays. September is late in the season. It is not too late.
