Issue No. 16 | The Weekend Edition | Friday, September 18, 2026
Forecast: National Weather Service Miami
Recreation permits go back on sale Monday and the beach parking price moves on October 1, the city is taking notes on its 2030 sustainability plan until October 9, and the council still owes eight firefighters an answer on pension money they paid in before 2015.
Let's get into it.
The Rundown
Beach permits go back on sale Monday, and the price moves on the 1st 🌴
The city puts 2026-27 Recreation Annual Permits on sale Monday, September 21. The ones in your windshield right now expire September 30.
The annual beach parking permit is posted at $85 through September 30 and $90 as of October 1.
That permit gets a city or district resident into Spanish River Park, Red Reef Park, South Beach Park and Mizner Bark. Palm Beach County residents outside the district pay $102 now and $108 after, and that one is South Beach only. Daily rates move the same day, from $35 to $40 on weekdays and $50 to $55 on weekends and holidays.
Permits run October 1 through September 30 and are not prorated, so a permit bought in March costs what one bought in October costs. The annual list is bigger than the beach: aquatics memberships, racquet sports memberships, boat ramp trailer parking, Bark Beach dog permits and dog park parking all renew now too.
Buy online through Webtrac, or in person at the Boca Raton Community Center, 150 Crawford Boulevard, Sugar Sand Park, 300 S Military Trail, or the Swim & Racquet Center, 21618 St Andrews Boulevard. Bring a Florida ID with your address on it and your vehicle registration.
Not prorated means the calendar is never on your side. Go Monday.
The city wants your notes on its 2030 plan, and the window shuts October 9 🌱
The Office of Sustainability has put a draft Sustainability Action Plan out for public comment. It's the first real rewrite of the 2019 plan and it sets the targets the city will work to through 2030.
Comments close October 9, and you can send yours anonymously.
The draft runs across nine focus areas and lines up with the city's Resilience Adaptation Action Plan and the LEED for Cities framework. If you want to know what you're commenting on first, the city has posted the draft plan as a PDF, a recorded webinar, and the slides from an August 2026 presentation.
Feedback goes through a form on the city's site. Your name and contact details are optional, so there's no reason to skip it on those grounds.
Three weeks to say what you want. After that it's a plan.

The council owes eight firefighters an answer on pension money they already paid 🔥
Ordinance 5796 would pay back city firefighters who bought extra pension service credit before April 14, 2015, and then watched a benefit cap erase part or all of what they'd bought.
If the cap wiped out the whole value, the firefighter gets the whole payment back.
The refund is worked out as the share of the buyback the cap erased, multiplied by what the member originally paid. The city's own numbers put the cost at $56,922 added to the plan's unfunded liability and $4,337 more a year out of the budget. The city manager's memo counted five potentially eligible members. The actuary put it closer to eight.
It was introduced on August 25 with no vote taken that night, and it still needs a public hearing and a final vote before it does anything. The proposed start date is October 1, and refunds would be paid within 90 days of retirement or entry into DROP.
A 2015 cap, eight firefighters, and a bill nobody has settled yet.

What's On
An Elton John tribute on North Federal, doors at 7:30 🎵
Still Standing is an Elton John tribute band, and they're at Crazy Uncle Mike's on North Federal tonight.
Doors at 7:30, music from 8:30 to 10:30.
Tickets are on Eventbrite and start in the mid-twenties, with table packages above that. It's listed all ages, so it isn't a 21+ room, and the venue is a brewpub with a full kitchen running while the band plays. Worth knowing before you buy: no refunds.
Can't get out? They stream the set free on their YouTube and Facebook.

The Shula Bowl is Saturday, and a box of cereal gets you into a future one 🏈
FAU hosts FIU at 6pm Saturday at Flagler Credit Union Stadium. It's the 23rd annual Shula Bowl, and the Owls lead the rivalry 17-5.
Bring an unopened box of cereal to Gate 1 and you get a free ticket to a future FAU home game, one ticket per box.
That's the fifth annual Tackle Hunger Drive, run by Cereal4All and Boca Helping Hands with FAU Athletics. Read it carefully though: the cereal buys a seat at a later game, not this one.
Title sponsor Robes Law is putting up $26 for Boca Helping Hands for every FAU tackle for a loss. If you'd rather stay dry, it's on ESPN+.

Croissants out of the oven at 8 on Sunday, with flour flown in from France ☕
Vincent's French Bakery sits in Sunbelt Plaza on North Federal, and the croissants land at 8am.
A butter croissant is $4 and the almond is $6, and the flour and the butter are both imported from France.
The croissant sandwiches run until noon: two egg or ham and brie at $11.95, smoked salmon and cream cheese at $15.95. After that it's quiche Lorraine at $16.95, a croque monsieur at $15.95, and a row of French sandwiches at $14.95 with potato salad or tabbouleh. An espresso is $3.75.
They're open both weekend days, 8 to 2:30, and closed Mondays. One thing to watch: there are two other Vincent's, in Lake Worth Beach and West Palm Beach, so put the Boca address in your phone and not the other two.
2831 N Federal Highway, Suites 8 and 9. 561-576-3151.
Get there at 8. That's the whole trick.

Then forty minutes on Sunday afternoon and you walk out holding your own slime ✨
Slimeology is a slime studio further up North Federal Highway, and it's open Sunday 11 to 5 with no booking required.
A 40-minute Slime Sesh is $27 at the door, $23 on Groupon, and $18.40 with the code FALL.
You build a custom 8oz slime with one color, one add-in and one scent. Extra colors, scents and charms cost more. Two people on the same Groupon code comes to $35.20.
You show the voucher when you turn up, there's nothing to reserve, and the promotional value runs out 90 days after you buy it. It is not valid for birthday parties or special events, so this is the walk-in version only.

An NCT 127 stadium show from Seoul, on a Boca screen at 6 on Sunday 🎭
NCT 127 filmed the finale of their fifth tour at the KSPO Dome in Seoul, and it screens at Cinemark Bistro Boca Raton and XD on Sunday.
One showtime only, 6pm Sunday, and it runs 3 hours 40 minutes.
It's in standard format with luxury loungers, rated NR, and assisted listening devices are available. The Bistro side of the house means food and drinks come to your seat instead of you standing in a line.
Cinemark doesn't publish the ticket price for this one online, so you'll see it at checkout. It's a one-night global release, so there's no catching it next weekend.

The Glow
The med spa that posts every price before you walk in ✨
Allure Aesthetics is a medical aesthetics studio on NW 2nd Avenue near the FAU corridor, run by founder Heather Schwartzmann, PA-C.
The consultation is free, and so is the two-week follow-up after a wrinkle relaxer.
Their whole menu is priced in public. A classic HydraFacial is $175 for 45 to 60 minutes. A custom facial with a jelly mask is $100. The original ViPeel is $150 and microneedling on the face is $350. A wrinkle relaxer is $250 for one area, showing in 3 to 5 days and landing fully at two weeks.
The hours are the thing to know. Wednesday is the only day open past 4, running 1 to 7pm. Friday closes at 2, and they're shut both weekend days. You can text the studio on the same number they answer the phone on, and they take Cherry, Affirm and Klarna in-house.
4700 NW 2nd Avenue, Suite 103. 561-409-2791.
Book the free consult first. It costs you nothing at all.

The Plate
The guy who breaks down the hog also makes you the sandwich 🥪
Beauregard's Fine Meats & Butchery is a whole-animal butcher shop in Winfield Plaza on NE 20th Street, and the same people cutting all morning run a sandwich counter at lunch.
The pastrami is $24: house-rubbed brisket, slow-smoked and steamed, on Zak the Baker rye.
Owner Cameron Falls is a Culinary Institute of America grad who cooked in New York before opening here. The Pastrami Reuben is $27, the porchetta with crispy cracklings and salsa verde is $18, and the banh mi with pork pate and Berkshire ham is $17.
You can eat there: there's counter seating and tables in the shop. The corned beef sandwich is in-store only, and the case rotates, so things sell out. They're closed Sunday and Monday.
One thing that's time-sensitive: their break-the-fast package feeds four for $235, and orders close today at noon, or sooner if they sell out, for Monday pickup between 3 and 5.
497 NE 20th Street, Winfield Plaza. 561-409-4783. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30 to 6.
Go early. The best cuts do not wait for you.

The Move
A real barbell gym out on 441, and your first class is free 💪
LVL UP Fitness is a strength gym on State Road 7 in west Boca where the two owners coach the classes themselves.
Your first workout is free if you're local, over 18 and have never been in.
The class is LVL Up 60, a straight hour of strength and conditioning scaled to whatever you can currently do, on real equipment: Olympic bars, kettlebells, sleds, curved treadmills, rowers and assault bikes. Classes run from early morning through the evening, so check the schedule on their site for today's times.
Memberships run $139 a month for eight classes, $179 unlimited, $199 and $299 for the bigger tiers, and every tier includes a monthly 30-minute consultation. Founder Tyler Ross built it around coached barbell work for people who aren't athletes, and Dan Davidowitz is the co-owner.
Two house rules: get there 10 minutes early your first time, and you can't join a class more than 5 minutes in.
21759 State Road 7, Suite 2. 561-409-2181.
Free is free. Go find out what you can lift.

The Find
Walk in before 1 and pick your own stems out of the front cooler 💐
NY Floral Design on NE 5th Avenue has been in the Lever family since 2000, and they'll let you shop the cooler like a market instead of ordering off a photo.
Arrangements start at $75, and same-day delivery cuts off at 1pm.
What's in the cooler right now, per the shop: sunflowers, roses, hydrangea, protea and gerbera daisies. Fur Elise, an all-white mix of roses, hydrangeas and spray blossoms, runs $85 to $150 depending on size. A Bubble Garden is $100.
The thing that makes it worth the drive: they say plainly they don't run assembly lines, so a master designer builds it at the design table rather than pulling a pre-made one out of the back.
1934 NE 5th Avenue. 561-338-5355. Open 9 to 6 today, 9 to 4 Saturday.
Buy flowers on a Friday for no reason at all. That's the entire point.

Good to Know
A $93 drain clearing, and a human picks up at 2am 🔧
Erica's Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Restoration has been Boca-based since 2009, and owner Erica Sullivan runs it as a certified woman-owned business.
Drain clearing is $93 and comes with a free camera inspection.
They answer the phone live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, holidays included, and their own line is that real people pick up day and night. Pricing is flat rate, quoted upfront, never hourly: the number you approve is the number you pay. The after-hours fee is $159.
The Pink Shield plan is $249 a year: 15% off repairs, two safety inspections, the dispatch fee waived during business hours, the after-hours fee cut to $98, and you move to the front of the line. It transfers with the house if you sell.
They're licensed for plumbing, HVAC and general contracting, so the AC and the water heater are the same phone call. Right now there's $500 off a new high-efficiency AC install and a $199 water heater maintenance special, both good through September 30.
100 NW 11th Street, Suite C. 561-782-2779.
Put the number in your phone now, not at 2am.

Want Boca to know your name?
Good in Boca lands in local inboxes five mornings a week. We work with a limited number of local businesses that want to be part of what people here are reading, doing, eating and talking about.
If Boca is your customer, you should probably be here.
That's your weekend.
Tonight is two hours of Elton John on North Federal with doors at 7:30. Saturday is the Shula Bowl at 6, and a box of cereal handed over at Gate 1 buys you a seat at a future game. Sunday is the full day: a $4 croissant on North Federal at 8, a rope of pink slime a few miles up the same road, and then NCT 127 filling a Seoul stadium on a screen on Airport Road at 6.
The weather is the one thing working against all of it. Storms are likely all three days and Sunday is the worst at 90 percent, so the indoor half of that list is the safer half. If you're making a list: a free consult at the med spa on NW 2nd, the $24 pastrami on NE 20th, and flowers picked out of the cooler before the 1pm cutoff today.
