The council sets your tax rate tonight, a street safety plan with $4 million attached is up for a vote today, and a Napa wine weekend at The Boca Raton wants $2,950 for the whole thing.

Let's get into it.

The Rundown

Tonight the council sets the tax rate you pay from October 1 🏠

The Boca Raton City Council holds its final budget hearing at 5:15pm tonight. Two votes decide it: Ordinance 5798 sets the final property tax rate, and Ordinance 5799 adopts the budget for the year that starts October 1.

Next year's general fund spends $283.9 million, and the tax rate vote is tonight.

The exhibits posted for tonight show where some of the money goes. Railroad crossings get another $8.1 million, for $13.1 million in total. Meadows Park Pool gets $425,000 in new money. $1.5 million of street resurfacing moves over to the infrastructure surtax, and Fire Rescue gets $1.8 million for trucks. The council also adopts a six-year capital plan running through 2031-32.

It is a public hearing. If you have notes on your tax bill, tonight is when they count.

The street safety plan up for a vote today has $4 million riding on it 🚌

The council's regular meeting today includes the Vision Zero Action Plan, Resolution 116-2026. It sits on the consent agenda, bundled with routine items into a single vote unless somebody pulls it.

Adopting the plan unlocks $4 million in federal money and $1 million local for pilot safety projects.

Over six years of data, Boca averaged seven crashes a day. The plan maps a High Injury Network of 27 corridor segments and 63 intersections. Director Zachary Bihr named 20th Street, 13th Street and 12th Street among the top spots for demonstration projects, with work likely to begin in 2027 and run through 2028.

Drive 20th Street? Expect to see this plan up close.

A Napa weekend at The Boca Raton costs $2,950 to see all of it 🍷

Artisans of Wine & Food returns to The Boca Raton January 14 to 17, 2027, with 100+ wineries, 20+ Michelin-starred and celebrated chefs, and 30+ events. It bills itself as the world's largest gathering of Napa Valley vintners outside the Valley.

All-Access passes are on sale now for $2,950. Single-event tickets go on sale October 1.

Jet Tila and David Burke are on the chef list. Saturday brings a Pickleball Social and an all-new Vintners Mahjong Tournament, then the Discover Napa Valley Tasting Pavilion with 100+ wineries across the Grand and Alhambra lawns. Sunday adds a European pavilion curated by Zachys. Money from Saturday's gala goes to the Selfless Love Foundation.

If $2,950 isn't your number, set a reminder for October 1.

2 minutes. Your URL. A customer profile worth using.

Most founders can describe their product. They can't describe their customer. Not in a way that actually changes how they sell.

HubSpot for Startups built a free tool to fix that. Paste in your URL, answer a few quick questions, and it generates a structured profile of your best-fit customer. Firmographics, buying triggers, the works.

Takes 2 minutes. No spreadsheet required.

What's On

Tuesday in Boca

Two Boca teams, same record, one gym tonight 🏐

The Boca Raton Bobcats host the Boca Raton Christian Blazers in girls' varsity volleyball tonight, and the two teams walk in dead level. Both are 12-5.

First serve is 6pm at Boca Raton High School.

It's a non-conference match, so nothing rides on it but local bragging rights. The Bobcats come in off two straight 3-0 losses, at Spanish River on September 15 and to Dr. Joaquin Garcia on September 17, after winning 3-2 thrillers over Wellington and Royal Palm Beach. No ticket price is posted on the Bobcats' schedule.

The Hans and Franz guy is doing stand-up on Glades Road 🎭

Kevin Nealon spent nine years on Saturday Night Live, created Hans and Franz and The Subliminal Man, anchored Weekend Update, then did Weeds. Tonight he's in a room at Boca Black Box.

Showtime is 7:30pm, and seats run $62.33, $73.03 or $83.73 with fees and tax in.

It isn't sold out, but the good seats are going: when we checked there were four left in Front Orchestra, and most of what's open sits in Rear and Middle Orchestra. Miss tonight and there's a second show Wednesday at 7:30pm.

The Plate

The west Boca cafe that stuffs Nutella inside the waffle ☕

Rosalia's Botanical Cafe is on State Road 7 in west Boca, in the same plaza as Massage Envy. Owners Ariel and Sherry Solomov named it for Ariel's grandmother, Rosalia, and the menu leans floral in a way you can actually taste.

The Rosalia's Favorite Stuffle is $15.75: strawberries, bananas and Nutella stuffed inside a Belgian-style waffle with a honey drizzle.

The drinks are the other reason to go. Nitro cold brew starts at $6.50, the Chocolate Coconut Nitro comes with edible gold for $8, and the Bouquet Latte is lavender, rose and violet at $8. There's also a Halva Honey Latte at $8, a Brie and Apricot Toast with pistachio dust at $16.25, and a chocolate croissant for $5 if you just want something from the case.

20423 State Road 7, Suite F9. 561-961-0037. The site lists 8am to 6pm, seven days, and online pickup orders run 7:45am to 4pm.

Order the latte that sounds like a candle. It works.

The Glow

A Hydrafacial for $99, tucked behind NW 20th Street ✨

glowU Med Spa sits in The Shoppes at University Park, the strip on NW 20th Street near FAU. The thing to book is the Hydrafacial, and the entry price is lower than you'd guess.

The Signature Glow and Plump Hydrafacial starts at $99.

From there it goes up in two steps: HydraGlow Deluxe from $249 and Platinum Detox and Sculpting from $299. The Hydrafacial page says add-on boosters are extra and get priced at your visit. Licensed esthetician Starr Ferrari has eight years in and does custom facials, microneedling, chemical peels and the Hydrafacial.

141 NW 20th Street, #A6. 561-896-1156. Open Tuesday 10am to 5pm, closed Mondays, and Wednesdays run late, until 7pm.

Ninety-nine dollars and you glow like you slept.

The Move

Seven classes on a Tuesday and your first three are free 💪

CrossFit West Boca is on State Road 7, and it runs a full day of classes whether you're a 5:30am person or a 6:30pm person. Everybody starts together and the coaches walk the floor, so nobody's guessing.

The free trial is 3 consecutive classes in 1 week, and a drop-in after that is $25.

Tuesday's class calendar has sessions at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30am, then 5:30 and 6:30pm, with room for 18 in each. A class runs 45 minutes to an hour. Head coach Julie Goodman has 13+ years of experience, and the gym is an official HYROX Training Club. If you stay, unlimited is $185 a month and three days a week is $165.

Go at 6:30pm. Everyone else is already mid pull-up.

The Find

The Yamato boutique where a mother and daughter shop the same rack 👗

IF SO Boutique is in Woodfield Plaza at Yamato and Jog, and it's set up for a shopping trip almost nothing else in Boca is: women's on one side, girls' 8 to 16 on the other, and a lot of the same looks running down both.

The sale rack is 50% off, and the discount comes off at the register, not on the tag.

So the price you see on the hanger is lying to you in your favor. After the sale rack, look at the IF SO Brand house label, $82 to $98, which is the part you can't get anywhere else. There are three stores, Aventura, Coral Gables and Boca, and this is the only one north of the county line. Whether matching dresses in two sizes is adorable or a negotiation depends entirely on the daughter.

3013 West Yamato Road, Suite B19. 786-942-2626. Open Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm, closed Sunday.

Same dress, two sizes. Good luck deciding who wore it better.

Good to Know

The Boca studio that designed an award-winning Miami pool deck 🌴

Landscape Design Workshop works out of a low office building on NW 53rd Street, north of Yamato, and designs the outdoor half of Miami towers. Founder and design director Erez Bar-Nur has a master's in landscape architecture from the University of Michigan.

They take residential: gardens, patios and pool landscaping in Boca.

The headline project is AMLI MidTown Miami, a 6.6-acre former rail yard across three city blocks that became 700-plus apartments, and it won the 2021 Florida chapter ASLA design award. Also on the shelf: Villa Magnolia in Bal Harbour, a Key Biscayne penthouse and Las Olas Beach Club in Fort Lauderdale. Their Houzz profile lists Boca Raton and Highland Beach in the residential service area. No prices are published, so this one starts with a call.

621 NW 53rd Street, Suite 125. 954-772-0724, or [email protected].

The same people who did the tower pool can do your backyard. Just smaller.

Want Boca to know your name?

Good in Boca lands in local inboxes five mornings a week. We work with a limited number of local businesses that want to be part of what people here are reading, doing, eating and talking about.

If Boca is your customer, you should probably be here.

That's your day.

Tonight has two start times on opposite sides of town. At 6, the Bobcats and the Blazers meet at Boca High, both sitting at 12-5, and one of them goes home with a thirteenth win. At 7:30, Kevin Nealon takes the stage at Boca Black Box on Glades, and when we checked, Front Orchestra was down to four seats. Volleyball first, comedy second, and you can make both if you don't linger.

If you'd rather spend the day on yourself, the list is short and good. A $15.75 Nutella waffle and an $8 lavender latte on State Road 7, a $99 Hydrafacial off NW 20th, three free CrossFit classes down the road, a 50% sale rack on Yamato that takes the discount at the register, and the Boca landscape studio behind an award-winning Miami pool deck. Pick one before lunch.

Something we missed? Hit reply, we read everything.
