Your tap water starts tasting like a pool on Sunday, the city’s fire fee is now $224, and Boca just counted more turtle nests than any year on record.

Let's get into it.

The Rundown

Your tap water is about to taste like a lap lane 🧊

From Sunday through October 11 the city swaps chloramine for free chlorine, so your kitchen sink will smell like a pool. Hydrant flushing runs alongside it, so expect cloudy water and low pressure.

Safe to drink, but call 561-338-7310 first if you run home dialysis or a fish tank.

Buy a lemon.

Your fire fee is now $224, and a totaled truck just cost the city $1.8 million 🔥

Council adopted the budget 5-0 on Tuesday and raised the residential fire assessment to $224, then added $1.8 million for a Fire Rescue truck hit on I-95 on September 16.

Adjusters call it a likely total loss, and the replacement is 12 to 13 months out.

The fire chief called a year extremely quick.

Boca's sand just had its biggest turtle year on record ⚓

Gumbo Limbo has logged 1,118 loggerhead nests and 43 leatherback on Boca beaches this season, both city records, and nesting season does not close until October 31.

Add 153 green turtle nests and the season is already past 1,300, on one strip of sand.

Lights off on the beach side until Halloween.

Summer's over and Boca woke up

Three weeks ago this section was a struggle. Here's the whole weekend, hour by hour.

And both farmers markets run the same four hours Sunday morning 🌱

Across town the Boca Farmers Market runs year round at BRiC with 90 plus. Both 9am to 1pm, both free. 1954 NE Fifth Avenue and 4950 Communication Avenue.

Opening day is the one Sunday every vendor turns up. Do one, then the other.

The Drive
Atlantic Avenue gives up two blocks to a craft festival in its thirty-first year 🌴

It runs both days. The Downtown Delray Beach Craft Festival puts handmade jewelry, ceramics, art and body products up NE 4th Avenue for two blocks off Atlantic, and admission is free, so you can give it twenty minutes or four hours.

The Plate

The doughnut everybody has been waiting on opens Saturday at eight 🍩

Parlor Doughnuts makes a layered doughnut that lands somewhere between a croissant and the thing you grew up with, and the Mizner Park shop runs its grand opening across both weekend days.

Saturday and Sunday 8am to 4pm, 9 Plaza Real South, Suite 108.

Opening weekend is the only weekend the line is part of the fun.

The bowl worth the ride out to West Boca isn't the tonkotsu 🍣

It's the duck. Ramen Lab Eatery fans five spice duck breast over bean sprouts, bok choy, garlic oil and micro cilantro, calls it a family recipe right there on the menu, and nobody else in town is copying it. The kitchen runs until 10pm Friday and Saturday, which is the West Boca room's own schedule, not the downtown one.

The 5 Spice Duck Ramen is $21 and the tonkotsu with chashu pork belly and a soft egg is $18.99. 20449 State Road 7, Suite A5.

Order the duck. The tonkotsu will keep.

The Glow

The most useful thing on this Boca menu is the one that fixes somebody else's work ✨

It's called a lash lift reversal. Blueprint Beauty is a one room brow and lash studio off NW 2nd Avenue, run by an esthetician named Kristen, and it relaxes lashes that came out over curled or uneven no matter who did them. Text her a clear photo first and she'll tell you whether it's the right call. She's open on Sundays.

The reversal is $70 for thirty minutes, and brow lamination with shaping and tint is $145. 4700 NW 2nd Avenue, Suite 103.

Ask for the acupressure massage while the lamination sets. It's already in the price.

The Move

This Boca gym runs five adult sessions on a Friday and three of them are sparring 💪

The other two are open gym and the 5:30pm class you'd actually start with. An hour at Boca Boxing District on North Dixie is warm up, partner drills, bag work, conditioning, then a cool down jog outside, and it's a real fight gym rather than a class with gloves on. Saturday at 10am is a ladies only hour.

Your first class is free for new clients.

5400 North Dixie Highway, Suite 6. 561-931-3449.

Wrap your hands. They'll teach you the rest.

The Find(s)

Five sales are live in Boca right now and two of them end this week 👗

Vince at Town Center is doing 25% off storewide, most full price and sale merchandise included, running through October 4. adidas in the same mall is up to 60% off through September 30. Downtown, Madeline's Boutique has evening and cocktail dresses up to 40% off at 20 SE 3rd Street, and they're closed Sunday so it's a two day window.

Macy's runs Celebration Saturday on the 26th, 10am to 9pm, with fall styling, giveaways and purchase-with-purchase.

And Sephora at Town Center has five in store events across three days: Evereden Friday at 6pm, a ROZ hair event and a skincare session Saturday at 11am with a makeup launch at 6pm, then Gisou Sunday at 11am and Glow Recipe at noon.

Somebody in Boca went and got a credential to make candles 💐

Constance King is a certified aromatherapist, trained at the New York Institute of Aromatic Studies, and she hand pours Constance K Aromatherapy out of a studio in the Boca Design Center. Crystal topped candles on wood wicks, reed diffusers, body mist sets, and free in store pickup. Petals in Bloom is $55 and shipping is free over $80. 3100 NW Boca Raton Boulevard, Suite 309.

Two designers flew their collections in and both trunk shows are open right now 💍

Boca Raton Bridal is running two at once. Dana Harel is in through October 3 and Leah Da Gloria XII and Bohème IX opens today and runs through October 4. A trunk show is the only window where you see a designer's full run in one room instead of the two or three pieces a shop normally carries.

Dana Harel gowns run $5,500 to $13,000 and Leah Da Gloria $4,500 to $20,000. 3591 North Federal Highway.

Book the appointment. Walking in on a trunk show weekend is optimistic.

Good to Know

Hardly any pest company in Boca will print a price. This one prints the whole list 🏠

Ants, roaches, spiders, rodents, wasps and mosquitoes, every one of them with a number next to it. Buggify Pest Solutions is Tyler Craig, his wife and their three kids, working out of West Boca since 2018, and the number on the site rings Tyler's own phone between 8am and 5pm. No contract, billed per visit.

A one time ant treatment starts at $175, and a roach or spider job is $195.

West Boca, 33428. 561-672-0200.

Get the estimate before the first cold front. Everything with legs comes indoors.

Want Boca to know your name?

Good in Boca lands in local inboxes five mornings a week. We work with a limited number of local businesses that want to be part of what people here are reading, doing, eating and talking about.

If Boca is your customer, you should probably be here.

That's your weekend.

Three weeks ago there was nothing on this list. Now there's a market Friday night, a market Sunday morning, a second market across town at the same hour, four amateur bands on a real stage, a ranked volleyball team playing twice, a yoga class inside the museum that the museum forgot to put on its own calendar, and a piano recital nobody is charging you for. Summer's over. Boca woke up.

The rest is yours to spend. A duck bowl worth the ride out to West Boca. A one room studio that'll undo a lash lift somebody else got wrong. A boxing gym that'll give you the first hour and see if you come back. Four sales running at once, two bridal trunk shows, and a pest guy who answers his own phone. And if you still want more, Atlantic Avenue is twenty minutes north.

Something we missed? Hit reply, we read everything.
