Issue No. 31 | Friday, October 9, 2026
Forecast: National Weather Service Miami
The city takes Monday off and your bins go out a day late, a one story industrial block is about to become ninety seven apartments, and the Panthers captain who moved here at eighteen just got a key to the city.
Let's get into it.
The Rundown
Your bins sit an extra day next week 🌴
City offices close Monday, October 12 for Columbus Day, and there is no sanitation run at all that day. Beaches, parks and playgrounds keep regular hours, both libraries stay open 9am to 8pm, and Gumbo Limbo runs noon to 4pm.
Monday's pickup moves to Tuesday, and Tuesday's moves to Wednesday.
Roll it out a day late and call it intentional.

A pool on the eighth floor, where the warehouse is now 🏠
The planning board voted 7-0 for Park Tower at Broken Sound, eight stories and 97 apartments on the spot where a one story industrial building stands today. The seventh and eighth floors get the pool, the gym and the outdoor terraces, with 2,100 square feet of retail and restaurant space at ground level.
Fifty two two bedrooms, forty five three bedrooms, and ten of them set aside as affordable.
Nobody has said yet what the other eighty seven will cost.

He picked Boca at eighteen, and now he has a key 🧊
Mayor Andy Thomson handed Panthers captain Sasha Barkov the key to the city at Boca Ice on Thursday, in front of his mother, his son and dozens of kids in full hockey gear. He flew in from Tampere at eighteen, went house hunting with his mom and his uncle, picked an apartment here and never left.
Two Stanley Cups, two All-Star games, and he says he has no intention of ever leaving.
His son is learning to skate on the same ice.

What's On
Remember Carrie? She's BAAACK, and she's at FAU 🎭

That is Chamberlain High, and that is where the bucket goes. Photo: FAU Theatre & Dance
Friday at 7pm, Carrie: The Musical, and it is closing weekend. FAU's theatre department has the Stephen King prom in the Studio One black box, which is a small enough room that the bucket feels close. It comes down Sunday and no ticket price is posted online, so the box office has them.
Marleen Forkas Studio One Theatre, 777 Glades Rd, Boca Raton. 561-297-6124.
Also Friday. The free artisan market fills the courtyard at Shops at Boca Center from 5 to 10, local makers only, and it runs every Friday to the end of October. Shakespeare Troupe has its reworked Ibsen, Hedda Gabler: A Life Arranged, at Sol Theatre at 7:30pm, $15 to $39.
Saturday, Zumba on the sand 🌊
Saturday, 10am, on the sand at South Beach Park, free. Nicole Gasparri runs it for the city, every level welcome, and there is no registration to wrestle with. Turn up, put your towel down, and the ocean is the soundtrack.
South Beach Park Pavilion, Boca Raton.
Also Saturday. Carrie goes twice, 2pm and 7pm, which is the only day you get a choice. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship runs a handmade craft fair from 10am to 2pm, free to walk through. And Young Frankenstein is at The Wick at 7:30pm, with no matinee this Saturday.
Sunday, a 5K before the heat 👟

Sunday's finisher medal. It spins. Photo: Every Boob Counts 5K
Sunday, 7:30am, $45 to run it or walk it. The Every Boob Counts 5K goes off at South County Regional Park for Sharsheret, the medal above is what you get at the end of it, and registration is still open at the early rate.
South County Regional Park, 11200 Park Access Rd, Boca Raton.
Also Sunday. Carrie closes at 2pm, so that is your last chance at it, and Young Frankenstein runs its own matinee at 2pm if you would rather laugh than flinch.
The Plate
Nova, capers and a sesame bagel 🥯

The works, before anybody cuts it in half. Photo: H&H Bagels
Bagels, finally. H&H has been doing this on the Upper West Side since 1972 and the Boca counter is its first door in Florida, baking on site and open at six every morning.
The classic bacon, egg and cheese is $8.60. A bagel with flavored cream cheese is $5.60.
Order the nova with the works: scallion cream cheese, tomato, red onion and capers on sesame, which is the sandwich in the picture. Doors are open 6am to 4pm, seven days, and the rest of the board is online if you want to walk in already decided.
H&H Bagels, 2200 Glades Rd #102a, Boca Raton.
Go early. The good ones go early too.
And the appetizing counter out west 🐟
Long Island Bagel Café is the other half of this. It is a proper appetizing counter, hand carved rather than pre-sliced, and the nova and belly lox come off the board by hand.
Hand carved nova on a bagel is $14.95. A bagel on its own is $1.95, and a dozen is always a baker's dozen.
Long Island Bagel Café, 8903 Glades Rd, Boca Raton. 561-453-1100.
Wednesday is the day to go big: buy twelve, get six.
The Glow
No acrylic, no dip, no Gel-X 💅

A French on your own nails, nothing built on top. Photo: Sasha.B.B.B Nail Studio
Sasha works on your own nails and nothing else. No acrylic anywhere on the menu, no dip, no Gel-X, nothing glued or built on top, which is close to unheard of here and the reason her cuticle work holds up the way it does.
Short natural nails start at $125. A gel pedicure starts at $135.
She works dry, with an e-file instead of a soak, one client at a time, and a first appointment runs 85 to 105 minutes. Open 9 to 5, seven days, Saturday and Sunday included, and booking is online, no phone call needed.
Sasha.B.B.B Nail Studio, 8177 Glades Rd Suite 210, Boca Raton.
The weekend slots go first.
And the all women clinic out west 🌿

Thinner than they look, and you do not feel them. Photo: Pixabay
Lotus Cove is run by women, all of them. A pelvic floor doctor of physical therapy and an acupuncture physician in women's health work out of the same suite, which is not a combination anywhere else in Boca offers.
Five acupuncture sessions are $400, or $349 a month gets you the pelvic floor work and the acupuncture together.
Lotus Cove Wellness, 6853 SW 18th St, Suite M220, Boca Raton. 561-299-1456.
Weekdays only, so book it round the work day.
The Move
The only indoor courts in Boca 🎾

Rackets down, nobody has served yet. Photo: Pixabay
Padel X has the only indoor courts in the city and it is the only padel club here open to the public rather than to members, eight of them under thirty foot ceilings. Friday mornings at ten belong to the Women's Court Club: ninety minutes of open play, every level from beginner up, run by Flora Carrella.
It is $45, or $40 if you are a member, and you do not need a partner.
This Friday is already full, so the one to put in your phone is next Friday, with all eight spots open. It runs Wednesdays as well as Fridays, same hour, and registration closes at 9:59 the morning of.
Padel X, 1081 Holland Drive, Suite 3, Boca Raton.
Indoors means the rain never cancels it.
The Find
Your dog eats better than you 🐶

That is dinner, and it is not for you. Photo: Pixabay
Barbara Ratner's pet shop is the one Boca dog people drive across town for. She took a Retailer Excellence Award at Global Pet Expo, and her floor is built around 24 freezers of raw and gently cooked food for dogs and cats instead of a wall of dry kibble.
Frozen raw dinner patties are $30.99, raw goat milk is $18.99, and they match any competitor's price.
Ask for K9Biotics, the probiotic she formulated herself, which is the thing regulars come back for. Open 9 to 5:30 on weekdays and 10 to 4 Saturday, closed Sunday, and they will deliver to your door the same day.
Holistic Pet Cuisine, 1000 Clint Moore Road, Suite 106, Boca Raton. 561-241-9151.
Your dog will know the car turned in here.
And something for you, open late 👝

The Isla, in gold, chain included. Photo: Etiquette Boutique
Etiquette keeps a wall of evening bags and a floor of dresses that do not cost what they look like, and the Isla is the one that photographs: a sculpted gold shell with a magnetic snap and a chain you can take off.
The Isla is $90, the zebra Dorit clutch is $70, and the satin slip dress is $98.99.
Etiquette Boutique, 1400 Glades Rd #150, Boca Raton. 561-717-8421.
Open until eight on a weekday, which is later than most of Boca manages.
Good to Know
The divorce call she takes herself 💍

Gold, engraved, and about to get itemized. Photo: Mauro Cateb via Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0
Doreen Yaffa has run her own family law practice in Boca for thirty years. She holds a Florida Bar distinction in marital and family law she has had since 2001, one fewer than six percent of eligible attorneys in this state earn, and Super Lawyers has named her every year since 2021.
The consultation is free, and the voice on the phone is the attorney, not a call center.
She also runs SplytUp, a streamlined online divorce for people who do not want to hand over a full litigation retainer, and she will take one piece of a case instead of the whole thing if that is all you need. The office works in Spanish too. Book the free hour by phone or through the form.
Yaffa Family Law Group, 301 Yamato Rd #2190, Boca Raton. 561-276-3880.
Better to have her number and never use it.

Want Boca to know your name?
Good in Boca lands in local inboxes five mornings a week. We work with a limited number of local businesses that want to be part of what people here are reading, doing, eating and talking about.
If Boca is your customer, you should probably be here.
Want your business featured? Hit reply and tell us what you're up to. We read everything, and we go and look.
That's your day.
Carrie comes down Sunday, so tonight and tomorrow are the whole window. If the black box is not your thing, the market runs till ten and nobody there is asking you to commit to anything.
The rest of it keeps. Bagels are out of the oven at six any morning you want them, the courts are there Wednesday and Friday, and the last number in here is one to save before you ever need it.
