Issue No. 33 | Tuesday, October 13, 2026
Forecast: National Weather Service Miami
The council puts a date on next year's city election this morning, a new ordinance starts sorting out who owns the downtown park for good, and the $100 fine for feeding an iguana is probably dead by lunch.
Let's get into it.
The Rundown
Your next say in Boca now has a date 🏠
The council sets the city's regular election for March 9, 2027 at this morning's meeting. It is one line on an agenda that also carries three development votes.
Everything the city decides by vote next year happens on that one Tuesday in March.
Put it in your phone now. Nobody is going to remind you in March.

Somebody has to own the downtown park forever 🌴
An ordinance introduced this morning would rewrite the Downtown Plan to settle long term ownership and stewardship of property the CRA holds, Mizner Park included. This is the first reading, so nothing moves today.
The plaza everybody meets at is city redevelopment property, and this is the first vote on who keeps it that way.
Watch it online if you have ever had an opinion about that fountain.

The $100 iguana fine lasted about two months 🐦
The council votes this morning on scrapping the ordinance it passed in August, the one that banned feeding iguanas, rats, mice and pigeons and put $100 on every offense. Councilmember Stacy Sipple voted for it and is the one asking to undo it.
It passed 3 to 2 in the first place, so if everyone votes the way they did in August, it is gone by this afternoon.
Feral cats were never in it. They have been fine this whole time.

What's On
Tuesday is cocktail night at the spice shop 🍸

A shop that sells you spice blends and then mixes you a drink out of them is not a thing anywhere else in this city. Tuesday is the cocktail night, built on their own blends and infused oils, so what you taste is what is on the shelf.
You taste it before you decide whether to take the bottle home, which is the opposite of how a shop usually works.
It starts at 6pm and it is over by 6:30pm, it is 21 and over, and the pour changes week to week. Wine night runs the same time Wednesday. Tickets are $7.68 with fees.
Spirits & Spice Boca Raton, 314 Plaza Real, Boca Raton.
Go straight from work. You will still make dinner.
The best team in Boca plays tonight 🏐
Lynn's women are 15-2 and ranked eleventh in the country at their level, with one conference loss all season. Florida Tech comes in at 4-12, which should tell you how the night goes.
Admission is free, the gym is small, and you sit close enough to hear what the coach is saying.
First serve is 7pm in the de Hoernle Sports and Cultural Center on the Lynn campus. A win keeps them in the hunt for the top seed in the conference tournament.
Lynn University, 3601 N Military Trail, Boca Raton. 561-237-7000.

The Plate
The toast everybody photographs is the caprese 🥑

Balsamic goes on like they mean it. Photo: Carmela Coffee
Two men who met in high school in Venezuela and stayed friends twenty five years started this in 2018. Both are chemical engineers. One of them has family in Colombia who have run a coffee house since 1918, which is not something you can fake on a sign.
The beans come off one family farm in Costa Rica and get roasted in small batches here in Boca, so the cup is not arriving on a truck from anywhere.
Order the Caprese, which their own menu flags as a house pick: smashed avocado, mozzarella pearls, grape tomatoes, basil oil and a heavy balsamic. The Shakshuka and the oven baked Carmela Pancake are the other two worth your morning. Toasts land between $12 and $18.
Carmela Coffee at BRiC, 4800 T-Rex Ave Ste 150, Boca Raton.
Sit outside. The patio is the whole reason.
Everyone else rolls. This one grills. 🔥
Every sushi counter in Boca is built around the roll. Yakitori Sake House is built around the charcoal, so order off the skewer side of the menu and let somebody else have the dragon roll.
Lunch runs 11:30am to 3pm daily and happy hour 3pm to 6pm, and both are dine in only, so this is a sit down or nothing.
Yakitori Sake House, 271 SE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton. 561-544-0087.
Ask for a seat near the grill.

New York's makeup lounge franchised once, to Boca 💄

Blushington ran as a New York beauty lounge for more than a decade and never sold a single franchise. The first one it ever sold went to west Boca, to Dr. Karen Lee Diaz, who walked away from a twenty two year career in social work to open it.
The point is a professional doing your face on an ordinary Tuesday. Not a wedding, not a lesson, not you squinting into your phone light.
Makeup is what to book here. They open 9am to 6pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7pm Friday, 8am to 7pm Saturday and 9am to 5pm Sunday. The service list comes by phone.
Blushington Boca Raton, 19635 State Rd 7 Ste 40, Boca Raton. 561-246-5645.
Book it for a night you want to feel handled.
The Move
Mat pilates with props, no machine in sight 🧘♀

No machine. Still shaking. Photo: SQLPT Pilates
Elena Duni spent over a decade running teams in luxury retail for Michael Kors and LVMH, got dragged into a pilates class by a relative in Macedonia, and was certified to teach four months later. Boca is one of five South Florida studios and it has been open about a year.
Bala made them a studio partner, which is why the rings, the sliding boards and the weighted bars on the wall are all the good stuff.
Classes run 7am to 8:30pm on Tuesdays and the lineup changes daily. The ones to look for are Power Pilates, Abs & Barre, SQLPT x Strength and the After Dark evening series. First timers get two classes for $50, drop in is $35.
SQLPT Pilates, 405 SE Mizner Blvd Ste 69, Boca Raton. 305-307-6346.
Wear something you can be upside down in.
Somebody built a pilates studio out of trampolines 💃
Cat Quarantello left finance in Boston and opened the only mini trampoline studio in Boca, and she still teaches most of the week herself.
Tuesday morning is Country Girl Bounce at 8:30am with Jen Eisenberg and The Overload at 9:30am with Cat. Drop in is $28 and first timers get two classes for $20.26.
On The Rebound, 6190 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton. 978-804-3206.
It is far more cardio than it looks.

They shut the whole shop for one bride 💍

Nobody else booked that hour. Photo: Aida Correa-Jackson / CC0
Surim Campos spent fifteen years climbing to senior vice president of marketing at one of the largest bridal houses in the world before opening her own. Carte Blanche won Bridal Shop in the Boca Raton Observer 2026 Readers' Choice in its first year open.
One appointment at a time, the doors closed to everybody else, which is the opposite of how gown shopping normally goes.
Appointment only, and Tuesday runs 10am to 6pm while Wednesday is closed. The racks carry Grace Loves Lace, Hayley Paige, Madi Lane, Trish Peng and Milla Nova.
Carte Blanche Bridal, 306 S Federal Hwy Ste 93, Boca Raton. 561-765-0077.
Bring the one person whose opinion you want.

Dinner at your door on a day's notice 🥩

Somebody else assembled this. Photo: Michelle Frechette / CC0
Chef Alon Ezra trained in Australia, ran the kitchen at a Melbourne bistro and then at the David Inter-Continental in Tel Aviv, and has been cooking for people here since 2016. He is also a certified nutritionist, which shows up in how the menus are built.
Give him a day's notice and dinner turns up ready to put on the table, for the two of you or for a hundred and fifty.
Drop off needs 24 hours. Full service events run up to 150 guests. He will also provision a boat by the day or the week, which is a very Boca problem to have solved.
Folklore Culinary, 980 N Federal Hwy Ste 110, Boca Raton. 561-990-3009.

Want Boca to know your name?
Good in Boca lands in local inboxes five mornings a week. We work with a limited number of local businesses that want to be part of what people here are reading, doing, eating and talking about.
If Boca is your customer, you should probably be here.
Want your business featured? Hit reply and tell us what you're up to. We read everything, and we go and look.
That's your day.
The spice counter pours at six and is done by half past, which is exactly long enough to get to the volleyball by seven. Do both. You will be home at a reasonable hour either way.
The rest of it keeps. The toast is there every morning, the bridal appointment takes the whole shop so plan that one, and the pilates floor runs until half eight if tonight gets away from you.
