The city tree gets lit on November 21, Boca will take your dead electronics and five boxes of shredding off your hands for nothing next month, and early voting opens Monday with three places in town to do it.

Let's get into it.

The Rundown

Boca just put a date on the holiday season ✨

The city has set its free holiday kickoff for Saturday, November 21, and it is a tree lighting with live music and food vendors at the Mizner Amphitheater.

It runs 6pm to 10pm and it costs nothing, which is rare for anything downtown with a crowd around it.

The address is 590 Plaza Real and the city put the notice out yesterday. Questions go to 561-393-7890.

Five weeks out. You are allowed to care about it later.

The city will take your dead electronics for nothing 🌱

Boca is running a free drive-thru e-waste and shred morning on Saturday, November 14 from 9am to 12pm, and you never get out of the car.

Each household can bring five banker's boxes of paper to be shredded, and the whole thing is free to city residents.

Televisions, computers, monitors, phones, tablets, batteries and toner cartridges all go in. CRT screens, hazardous waste and big appliances do not. It runs out of 6500 Congress Avenue.

Your junk drawer has been waiting a year for this.

Boca gets fourteen days to vote and three places to do it 🏠

Early voting for the November 3 general election runs October 19 to November 1, 7am to 7pm every single day, and three of the sites sit inside city limits: Sugar Sand Park, the Downtown Library and the Spanish River Library.

If you would rather do it at your kitchen table, the deadline to have a ballot mailed to you is 5pm on Thursday, October 22.

Election Day itself is Tuesday, November 3, 7am to 7pm. A mailed ballot has to be back at the Supervisor of Elections main office by 7pm that night, not postmarked by it.

Two weeks to do it whenever you like, or one Tuesday in a line.

What's On

Quinn Sullivan is twenty seven and has already played Madison Square Garden, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, and tonight he is doing it in a room that holds a few hundred people.

He has played festival stages to tens of thousands, and tonight you can stand close enough to watch his hands.

Doors are at 6pm and he is on at 8pm. The seated tiers have gone and general admission is still open at $44 all in.

The Funky Biscuit, 303 SE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton. 561-395-2929.

Get there early if you want the front.

Start the night at a wine tasting 🍷

A guided tasting runs across wines, spirits and beer at the west Boca store, pouring things you would never commit to a whole bottle of just to find out whether you like them.

You get to taste your way across a counter first and decide what is worth buying second, which is the correct order and nobody ever does it.

It runs 5:30pm to 7:30pm and costs $15. Online sales closed today, so it is a door ticket and the room holds what it holds. 21 and over.

ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, 9894 Glades Rd, Boca Raton.

Eat something first. Obviously.

FAU's women host East Carolina for free tonight ⚽

The Owls are on a three game winning streak and sit 4-2-0 in conference play, and they get East Carolina at home, a side that has drawn eight times this season and is tied for second most draws in the country. Somebody is going to want this one badly.

Every FAU soccer match is free, and this one is done by nine, so it fits in front of a late dinner instead of replacing one.

Kickoff is 7pm at the FAU Soccer Stadium on the Boca campus.

FAU Soccer Stadium, 777 Glades Rd, Boca Raton. 561-297-2000.

Sit on the near side. The sun drops behind you.

A band plays the back room at eight 🎵

A band called DNR is on and the venue has told nobody at all who they are. No genre, no bio, no links. The rest of the week there is an eighties tribute, a blues guitarist and a rock covers act, so the odds are good.

Nobody has said what this band is, which on a Thursday is either the best reason to go or the worst, and you find out at eight.

Doors are at 7pm and the band is on at 8pm, running to about 11:30pm. No cover is published and the ticket is a free table reservation.

Crazy Uncle Mike’s, 6450 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton. 561-931-2889.

Reserve the table. It costs nothing and the room fills.

The Plate

The brisket nachos are what you came for 🌮

El Camino took three categories last month in the Boca Raton Observer readers' choice, best Mexican, best late night and best outdoor, and the smoked brisket is the thing the kitchen builds everything else around. It turns up in the quesadilla, the burrito and the enchilada, but the nachos are where you can actually see it.

The kitchen is still cooking at two in the morning, so dinner can start whenever you are finally done with the day.

Order the Smoked Brisket Nachos at $19. The Crispy Fish Tacos are $19 for three and the Short Rib Empanada is $17. Thursday they run 11am to 2am, same as every other day.

El Camino, 5377 Town Center Rd Unit 100, Boca Raton. 561-980-7700.

Bring somebody who shares.

The Glow

She picks the extension method for your hair ✨

The length is the easy part. Photo: WordPress Photo Directory / CC0

Most salons carry one extension brand and fit you to it. Sydney Pascoe is the extension specialist at her family's salon, second generation on the same floor, and she is trained across hand tied wefts, beaded wefts, bonded and thermal systems, which means the consultation decides the method instead of the supply cupboard.

If your hair is fine at the part rather than short, she has a system for that too, and it is not the same one she would put on thick hair.

Her certifications run through Great Lengths thermal and ultrasonic, Invisible Bead Extensions, Hairdreams and Nano Netting. The salon is owned by Donna Pascoe and opens 9am to 6pm on Thursday. Extensions start with a consultation.

Donna Pascoe Salon, 124 S Federal Hwy, Boca Raton. 561-573-0006.

Book the consultation first. The install is its own day.

The Move

A German training studio opened in east Boca 💪

No floor, no queue, no mirrors full of strangers. Photo: 6WEEX

6WEEX runs out of Planegg, just outside Munich, and it has opened exactly two studios in the United States, one here and one in Oakland Park. Half the brand's American business is in Boca. You train in a private room in a group of a few people with a coach in there the whole hour, which is the opposite of what the word gym usually buys you.

There are only two of these rooms in the country and one of them is here, so you are training in a studio most of the people reading this have never heard of.

The way in is a free one to one private coaching and body metrics session you book yourself. After that it is 60 minute small group personal training twice a week, with a nutrition plan and check ins in between. Thursday it runs 6am to 8pm. The parent company is run by Cora Kultschytzky and Laurens Kultschytzky.

6WEEX East Boca, 2621 N Federal Hwy Suite W, Boca Raton. 728-229-2661.

Book the free one and decide after.

The Find

Hit with the paddle before you buy it 🎾

A stack of racquets with bright strings, the kind you hit with before you buy one

Strings first, excuses later. Photo: WordPress Photo Directory / CC0

Everybody in this city has taken up pickleball and almost everybody bought their paddle off a review. MatchSet built an indoor dink court into the shop floor, so you take a paddle off the wall and actually play with it first. They also fit you to a frame by your swing rather than your budget, and they string same day or next day.

There is a court inside the shop, so you hit with the thing for ten minutes and then decide, which is not how anybody buys a paddle.

They carry Head, Yonex, Joola, CRBN and Diadem across tennis, padel, pickleball and beach tennis. The Anna Leigh Waters signature paddle, the one the world number one plays with, is $229.99. Thursday is their long day, 10am to 8pm.

MatchSet, 555 N Federal Hwy Ste 1, Boca Raton. 561-325-0329.

Take your old racquet. They will restring it while you play.

Good to Know

Close on a Boca house without flying in 🔑

Boca Title & Escrow is the Boca arm of Weston Title, owned and run by practising real estate attorneys rather than a title shop with a lawyer on speed dial, and it has been closing Florida property since 1994. Ellen Pilelsky is chief executive and co-founder and has been admitted in Florida since 1988.

They will notarise and close the whole thing online, so you can buy a house here from another state and never book a flight to sign anything.

They write through Fidelity National Title, the Attorneys' Title Insurance Fund and First American, and they do remote online notarisation, remote ink signing and mobile closings. Thursday the office is open 9am to 6pm and you can ask them for a quote before you are under contract.

Boca Title & Escrow, 2385 NW Executive Center Dr Suite 100, Boca Raton. 561-264-5290.

Ask for the quote before you pick a lender.

Want Boca to know your name?

Good in Boca lands in local inboxes five mornings a week. We work with a limited number of local businesses that want to be part of what people here are reading, doing, eating and talking about.

If Boca is your customer, you should probably be here.

Want your business featured? Hit reply and tell us what you're up to. We read everything, and we go and look.

That’s your day.

The wine counter opens at half five, kickoff is seven and both bands go on at eight. You can do the tasting, the first half of the soccer and then the blues, in that order, and still be home before eleven. If you only pick one, pick the blues.

The rest of it keeps. The nachos are there until two in the morning, the extension consultation can be booked for next week, the dink court is open all weekend, and the title office answers its own phone if you are even half thinking about buying something.
