Issue No. 49 | Wednesday, November 4, 2026
Forecast: National Weather Service Miami
Boca just capped new houses at two stories, the schools have more days off coming, and a new crossing is going in over the north Boca tracks.
Let's get into it.
The Rundown
No more three story houses going up next door 🏠
City Council voted 4 to 0 to close the loophole that let builders use the roof height allowance to add a third story to a single family home. The 25 foot height limit stays, and the five projects already in review are exempt.
Two stories is now the ceiling on new single family homes in Boca.

Two more school days off are on the calendar 🍎
Palm Beach County public schools closed Tuesday because so many campuses are polling places. The next days off are Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day and the full week of November 23.
Winter break runs December 21 to January 5, so book the sitter now.

Boca is building a new way across the tracks 🚧
The city broke ground on a $2 million railroad crossing in north Boca that opens a new east to west route toward North Park. The trade is that an older crossing a few blocks north closes, so if that is your shortcut, plan a new one.
About a year of work, done by the end of 2027, paid for with federal money.

The Plate
Order the meatball they built for the Owls 🍕

A loaded pie, straight out of the oven. Photo: Tomasso's
One family has run Tomasso's since 1981, and the daughter and her husband now work the room alongside her parents. The thing to order is the Owl Ball, a meatball baked inside a garlic roll that they invented for an FAU Fighting Owls fundraiser and then kept on the menu because people would not stop asking for it. On the night before the Owls play on national television, that is the sandwich to eat.
Ask for the Owl Ball by name, and know that one thin slice is a sixth of a twenty inch pie, so one is dinner.
Tomasso's Pizza and Subs, 1229 W Palmetto Park Rd, Boca Raton 33486. 561-392-8985. Wednesday 10:00am to 9:00pm.
Owl Ball $5.50, garlic rolls six for $5.75, thin slice $4.75, Sicilian square $5.00, fourteen inch pie $17.95, Calizza $23.00.
Forty five years in the same room, and the kitchen runs to nine.
The Treat
This cinnamon roll comes buried in berries 🍓

The Very Berry Roll. Photo: Cinnaholic
Naomi Cohn and her husband Todd run the Boca store, and The Forward wrote it up as the first vegan kosher cinnamon roll bakery. Everything is already vegan, and on top of that the kitchen carries ORB supervision, Pareve and Pas Yisroel, so an outside rabbinical board audits it. The Very Berry Roll is the one to order: cake batter frosting, fresh strawberries and blueberries, raspberry jam and a dusting of powdered sugar on a warm roll.
Order the Very Berry Roll warm, and grab an Old Skool for whoever swears they are not hungry.
Cinnaholic, 141 NW 20th St Ste B-1, Boca Raton 33431. 561-617-7277. Wednesday 11:00am to 9:00pm.
Very Berry Roll $7.85, Tropical Bliss Roll $7.85, Pumpkin Spice Roll $8.48, Old Skool Roll $5.98.
The chain started as a Shark Tank pitch, which explains the build-your-own counter.

Get a manicure that dries before you reach the car 💅

Hot pink, fully dry, no lamp involved. Photo: Nail Depot
Nail Depot on East Palmetto Park is the downtown spot for Dazzle Dry, a vegan, non-toxic polish system that dries completely in about five minutes with no UV or LED lamp. It wears like gel for one to two weeks, then comes off with regular remover, so there is no soaking, scraping or drilling at your next visit. New shades just landed on the color wall, and walk-ins are welcome.
Ask for the Dazzle Dry manicure and you walk out dry, with a gel shine and nothing to soak off later.
Nail Depot, 157 E Palmetto Park Rd, Boca Raton 33432. (561) 347-7496. Wednesday 9:00am to 6:00pm.
Dazzle Dry manicure $43, Dazzle Dry pedicure $57, regular manicure $28, gel builder manicure $67.
Parking is free behind the salon, which on Palmetto Park is its own small luxury.

Lilly Pulitzer quietly opened a second Boca store in Mizner Park 🌸

The resort print brand opened on the northwest side of Mizner Park with almost no announcement, taking over the old Cotton Natural space, and it now runs alongside the Town Center store. Stylists on the floor will pull a full look for you, and the one on one styling appointment is free.
Book the free styling hour and walk out with a full holiday look built around the Elsa top.
Lilly Pulitzer Mizner Park, 417 W Plaza Real, Boca Raton 33432. (561) 807-7275. Wednesday 11:00am to 6:00pm.

Good to Know
They clean your dog's teeth while he stays awake 🐩

Two Pomeranians fresh off the table. Photo: Mod Dog Salon
Mod Dog has been grooming in Boca since 2006 and does two things almost nobody else here does. No cage dryer is ever used, so every dog comes off the table hand dried with warm towels after the bath. And they run non-anesthetic dental cleanings, taking plaque and tartar off in a short appointment with the dog awake and no sedation at all. If your dog is matted they assess how bad it is before they book anything, and they will turn the job down on a dog matted to the skin rather than hurt him getting it out.
Your dog comes home hand dried with clean teeth, and nobody put him under to get there.
Mod Dog Salon, 600 S Dixie Hwy Suite 106, Boca Raton 33432. (561) 338-8883. Wednesday 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Pricing is quoted on the phone by breed, coat and size, so nothing is published. Ask about the Low Shed treatment if yours is double coated.
They only work Tuesday through Friday, which makes a Wednesday the easy day to get a table.

This body wash turns my shower into a steam room 🛁

Nécessaire's eucalyptus body wash. Photo: Nécessaire
This one is from me. Nécessaire's body wash in eucalyptus is a multi-oil cleanse, and the eucalyptus in it is actual eucalyptus oil sitting alongside meadowfoam, marula, lavender and Siberian fir, not a fragrance note poured in at the end. That is why it reads like a steam room instead of like a candle, and why the smell lifts in the hot water and then lets you go. It is the bottle I keep replacing.
Put the matching eucalyptus body lotion on straight out of the shower and you carry the same thing on your skin all day.
Nécessaire The Body Wash in Eucalyptus, at necessaire.com and Sephora. 100 ml $15, full size $28. The matching Body Lotion in Eucalyptus is $15.
Start with the small one before you commit to the big bottle.
